“And let us consider one another in order to stir up love and good works, not forsaking the assembling of ourselves together, as is the manner of some, but exhorting one another, and so much the more as you see the Day approaching.”
– Hebrews 10:24-25
Fellowship is at the heart of the Christian journey, as it reflects God’s design for us to live in community. Verses like Hebrews 10:24-25 and Acts 2:42 remind us of the importance of gathering to encourage and strengthen one another in faith, love, and good works.
In the New Testament, koinonia signifies the mutual bond that Christians have with Christ. This bond unites us in a profound and eternal relationship of love that should express itself in joyful and affectionate service for each other’s good. Fellowship is more than just some happy banter after a church service – it is about sharing burdens, celebrating joys, and building each other up in Christ.
“It is in this unity that we mirror God’s love to the world, embodying His call for us to be one body in Christ.”
– Romans 12:4-5
Jesus often used meals as powerful moments of connection, hospitality, and teaching. He ate with tax collectors, sinners, and outcasts, showing that God’s grace crossed social boundaries. Around the table, barriers fell, conversations deepened, and people felt seen and valued. Jesus also shared many meals with his disciples, forming community, offering guidance, and modelling servant leadership.
From feeding the crowds to breaking bread in homes and celebrating the Last Supper, meals became spaces of belonging and revelation.
May we continually seek deeper, authentic relationships with one another, always spurring each other on toward spiritual growth and a closer walk with God.
