During the past month we looked at the importance of growing in our faith as Christians and that we cannot please God without a life of faith in Jesus Christ. He is the perfector of our faith.
In John 8:31-32 Jesus said to the people who believed in Him,
“You are truly my disciples if you remain faithful to my teachings. And you will know the truth, and the truth will set you free.”
Placing our faith in Jesus Christ as Lord and Saviour is only the start to a brand new life of becoming a true follower of Jesus, while discovering how to live in His victory over sin and death. We are called to be rooted and built up in Christ. This requires obedience to the Holy Spirit as we spend time in the Word, in prayer and in the fellowship of believers.
Over the next 2 months we desire to place ourselves in the disciples’ shoes as we study the Scriptures and understand what it really entailed to follow Jesus. In John chapters 13-17, Jesus leaves His followers with important teachings that settles our understanding of how to grow in our relationship with God the Father, Jesus His Son and the Holy Spirit. Our transformation in becoming more like Him, is dependent on the depth of our relationship with Christ.
“Following Christ isn’t something that can be done half heartedly or on the side. It is not a label we can display when it is useful. It must be central to everything we do and are.”
– Francis Chan
All of us struggle with fear and doubt from time to time, just as the disciples did. As we endure in our faith, we are being refined to be a greater reflection of Jesus. In essence, to be a follower of Jesus Christ is being committed to a journey of transformation as we surrender our lives to see His will being done on earth as it is in heaven.
